Virtualy Recreating Reality
It's one thing to make a world, it's another to shape it. Taking the care to get the look and feel of everything just right, striking the balance between photorealistic and the virtual reality is fine line. The mismatching of colours and textures is a common thing in Second Life and it can spoil an otherwise beautiful world.
We strive to keep all our textures in balance with the subject matter. A road should look like one not just a black slab between two buildings. Walls should touch with invisible seems where the textures flow across the surfaces and around corners the way that they should do.
Here is an illustration of textures applied to a simple brick wall built from basic 10m x 10m panels.

This image shows correctly aligned textures including the top edges. |
 |
Here the side wall is fully aligned but the textures are too small making it look tiled. |

Highlighted details showing the position of the textures. |
 |
Here we have turned on the texture sellect tool so that you can see the missalignment in the textures. This is a common sight. |
Whilst this illustration is far from comprehensive what does show is how important these details are to the overall appearance of the final build.
